Car Interior Restoration vs Reupholstery: Which to Choose

Over time a leather interior loses its look: wear, cracks and fading appear. The owner faces a choice — reupholstery or restoration. Let us look at how they differ and which is better value.

How restoration differs from reupholstery

Reupholstery is a full replacement of the leather: the old covering is cut off and new material is sewn on. Restoration is reviving the existing leather: cleaning, repairing cracks and wear, levelling and dyeing. In one case the material is replaced, in the other the original is brought back to life.

Which is cheaper

Restoration is usually several times cheaper. With reupholstery you pay for material and complex tailoring; with restoration only for working the existing leather. If the leather is intact, restoration is almost always better value.

When restoration fits

Restoration solves the problem if the leather is largely intact: wear on the wheel and seats, small cracks, fading, local damage. We rebuild the structure and re-dye the interior to its original or a new colour — the result lasts for years.

When reupholstery is needed

Reupholstery makes sense if the leather is torn, rotted, badly stretched or you want to change the material entirely. In such cases there is nothing left to restore.

Our approach

In most cases restoration fully solves the task — cheaper and faster than reupholstery. We assess the interior for free and tell you honestly what is more cost-effective in your case.
